What is Cheqi?

Cheqi is a platform for sending money cards. A money card is a traditional greeting card with money attached to it. The money can be collected when the receiver scans the QR code on the inside of the card. A verification procedure makes sure only the intended receiver can claim the money.

Is Cheqi a digital gift card?

You can think of Cheqi as a universal digital gift card: the receiver gets the amount on their own bank account and can spend it anywhere. The big difference is in the fine print. With a regular gift card the credit expires after the expiry date and the money is gone. With Cheqi credit never expires: if a card is not collected, the full amount automatically returns to the giver after 60 days.

Who or what is Online Payment Platform?

Online Payment Platform (OPP) is a licensed payment service provider that handles payments safely and under supervision. OPP is supervised by the Dutch central bank (DNB) and handles payments for Marktplaats, PayPal and IKEA, among others.

Is it safe to pay through Cheqi?

Yes. Cheqi works with Online Payment Platform, a licensed payment service provider supervised by the Dutch central bank. Payments run safely through iDEAL | Wero, PayPal and Apple Pay. The money is held securely until the receiver collects it.

What happens to the money meant for the receiver?

That money sits in a separate account managed by OPP. Cheqi has no access to it. So you can be sure the money is kept safe until the receiver collects it.

Which payment methods does Cheqi support?

Is there a minimum or maximum amount?

Yes. A Cheqi card carries a minimum of €5 and a maximum of €100 per card. Within those limits you choose the amount yourself while ordering.

What happens if the money card is never collected?

If the money card is not collected, we automatically return the balance to the sender after 60 days. Fourteen days before that happens, the sender receives a reminder by email.

How do I send a money card?

You buy a money card online in our shop. Pick a card that fits the occasion, personalise it, add the amount and the right details. We then make sure the card is delivered to the right address at the right moment.

Can I pick the delivery date myself?

Yes. While ordering you select the delivery date you want. You can also have the card delivered to your own home; it arrives through the letterbox within 2 business days at the latest.

Can I decide when the Cheqi can be opened?

Yes. While ordering you can set a lock, up to 30 days ahead. The card is welcome to arrive early: the amount and the message only open at the moment you choose. That way the card is never late and the surprise keeps until, say, the birthday itself.

What if I want to hand over the money card myself?

Simply have the card delivered to your own address. That way you can bring it along and give it at a personal moment. The card arrives neatly packaged.

Can I order several cards at once?

Yes, you can order several Cheqi cards in one go. During checkout you fill in the receiver details and the delivery address per card.

Do I need an account to send a money card?

No, an account is not required. It does add convenience: your details are filled in automatically, you only have to do the IBAN verification once, and you get an overview of all your cards.

How fast is my order processed?

We start producing your card almost immediately. It is usually handed over for shipping the same or the next business day.

How do I know the money card arrived?

We keep you posted by email. You receive a message when the card ships and when the money is collected.

How is the money card shipped?

Money cards ship as regular letterbox mail through PostNL. The card fits through the letterbox, so the receiver does not need to stay home.

By default there is no track & trace. Prefer to follow the card? During checkout you can choose a shipping option with track & trace for an additional charge.

I suspect my money card never arrived. Now what?

No worries - contact our customer service at support@cheqi.nl and we will look into it for you right away.

Can I still change my order after placing it?

Accepted Answer

Because production starts immediately, changes are often not possible. Did something go wrong anyway? Contact us as soon as possible at support@cheqi.nl.

Can I still change the balance or amount?

Accepted Answer

It is currently not possible to change the amount after the order is placed. Want to cancel the balance? Mail support@cheqi.nl - as long as the receiver has not collected it, we refund the amount to your account. And if a Cheqi is never collected, the amount automatically returns after 60 days anyway.

What if my money card arrives damaged or misprinted?

What are the shipping costs?

Shipping costs €1.40 per card through PostNL. For several cards to different addresses, shipping is charged per card. A value pack ships as a parcel for €5.50.

Are there service fees?

Loading money onto a Cheqi card carries a service fee of €0.79 per card, paid by the sender. The fee covers holding and processing the balance securely.

How do I get the money from my money card?

Accepted Answer

Collecting your balance uses SMS verification. The sender provides your phone number and at collection you receive a code by SMS. That is how we check the money reaches the right person. There is also a verification through Online Payment Platform (OPP). Create a Cheqi account and you only have to do that verification once.

How long until the amount is in my account?

Accepted Answer

After collecting the money card, the money is often in your account within a few hours. You receive the amount no later than the next business day.

The QR code will not scan. What can I do?

Unable to scan the QR code? Go to www.cheqi.nl and click "Top up / Redeem". Every Cheqi card also carries a unique 12-character code of digits and letters you can use to claim the balance. Still not working? Contact support@cheqi.nl.

My card was collected, but I have not received money. How come?

Accepted Answer

Once the balance is collected, it can take up to 24 hours before the money is in your account. Did you not collect it yourself, or does something look off? Contact support@cheqi.nl.

Can I use the QR code more than once?

Accepted Answer

No. A Cheqi card can be claimed only once, by the right receiver. As soon as the balance is claimed, the code becomes invalid. The receiver verifies with the phone number the sender provided.

Why do I have to transfer 1 cent?

The 1-cent verification is needed to register you as a private user with Online Payment Platform. That verification is what makes it possible to pay the balance straight into your account.

Does receiving a Cheqi balance cost anything?

No. Receiving a Cheqi balance is free for the receiver. The receiver gets the full balance amount.
